Default What is your tire of choice ?

After being out of racing for a few years , I have been doing some research on tires and pricing. And since I am running on a tight budget I am looking for some opinions on the tires that are competitive and yet, somewhat cost effective.

I have run Hoosiers , and at the time ,they were the tire to have .So are they still the tire of choice , or does Kumho or Hankook have a superior tire now ?

Nitto NT-01.... Wear like iron and get faster as they age. Fastest laps on a set last season were at the end of a 3 hour enduro, tires had 8 to 10 heat cycles at the start of the 3 hour.

Linda Kogan can atest to there speed and durability. and they are available from Town Fair tire,NTB,Discount tire direct and East Springfield Transportation,East Springfield MA(shameless plug there)

We tend to agree with this. Especially if you are concerned about getting some economy out of your tires. They wear VERY well, with limited to no drop off in performance. My guess is that budget-be-damned you would still be faster with a new set of Hoosiers every weekend, but the Nittos just don't seem to be that far back performance wise to us.

Good luck sourcing Hankooks.

If you want to run towards the front, it's Hoosier. If you want to run, something else would be just fine.

How are the Goodyear Eagle RS's matching up to the Hoosiers?

Hankooks, BFG R1s, Goodyear Eagle RS => Hoosier

With my personal experience showing that the R1s last for a very long time and don't slow down.

If i was on an open tire, it would be the R1s.

1:32.6 on R888.

1:30.7 on Goodyear RS.

Coarse, abrasive asphalt at Race City in Calgary. Goodyears wear like the pink eraser on the end of a kindergarteners pencil. Third session is fastest, then about 6/10s off till corded. Treadlife is maybe 20% less than the 888s.

Hey thanks to everyone for the input . I forgot that BFG made a tire for road racing ! And doesn't seem to badly priced either. And the Nitto's look good too.

But as always $$ sway the decision.

Thanks again ,
John

I am looking for opinions on the Toyo R888's. Any takers ? I know they're not Hoosiers..but I found a decent set on the cheap. Just looking for some input.

I think you'll find that the 1:30.8 you ran in July is the New IT2 track Record and so will the 1:30.7 you ran last weekend when the offical times are posted

I just picked up a set of 255/40-17 Ra-1s for $140 each shaved. Now I need to find a set of 17x8.5 rims.
